LIVE: We Are The Ocean – 01/02/13 – Koko, London

When We Are The Ocean made the announcement of Dan Brown’s departure, it was hard to think how they would move forward losing a key band member who really defined the band’s sound. But since the release of “Maybe Today, Maybe Tomorrow”,  We Are The Ocean proved they can still do it and that tonight’s gig at Koko was going to be extra special.

What amazed me was how much frontman Liam Cromby has grown since being put front and centre. We were treated to old and new material, but hearing some of the new songs such as “Bleed” and “Story of a Modern Child” showed how quickly the band have mastered their new and improved sound. Highlights for me were “Confessions” and “The Waiting Room”. With guitarist Alfie Scully backing up Liam on vocals, the old songs sounded even better than before .

Overall an amazing gig and a brilliant tight sounding set. I look forward to seeing what We Are The Ocean have got planned for the rest of the year.
