LIVE: The Killers – 16/11/12 – The O2, London

After having to axe two shows in Manchester earlier this week, The Killers return tonight in London to continue their UK tour, in support of the latest album, Battle Born. The Killers are well known for putting on fantastic concerts with sublime production. Tonight was no exception.

This evening, Brandon, Ronnie, Mark and Dave come prepared to exhibit their latest, fantastic, studio release. Battle Born, for me, is perfect. It pin-points exactly what we all love about the Nevada quartet. It is a blend of all previous albums which has meant it is a treat for Killers fans old and new.

Kicking off with new track “Matter of Time”, The Killers start on 10, and remain there. The Killers played songs old and new, with a setlist weighted quite heavily with new material. As The Killers played through classics such as “Somebody Told Me”, “Mr Brightside”, “A Dustland Fairytale” and “Jenny Was a Friend of Mine”, it occurred to me that rarely do any bands have a back catalogue as ferocious as these guys do. In a recent interview, Brandon claimed that picking a setlist for the UK was very difficult and I can see why.

Fans were treated to a stripped down rendition of the classic Oasis song, “Don’t Look Back in Anger”, which was received with a rupture of applause. The production was sublime. It was classy, modern and aided in giving that usual ‘epic’ feel that a Killers concert entails. Highlights for me included “When You Were Young”, which sent shivers down every person in tonight’s sold out O2 Arena, and set closer, and title track of the new album, Battle Born.

It was clear that Brandon and co. thoroughly enjoyed the evening and even looked overwhelmed at times. The Killers play another show at the 02 Arena tonight (17th November), before playing Wembley Stadium in June. Don’t miss out on a chance to see arguably one of Americas finest ever rock bands.
