LIVE: Stone Sour – 10/12/12 – O2 Academy, Brixton

The godfather of hard rock, Corey Taylor returned to London tonight. On the bill is not just one of rocks biggest and most explosive bands, but also rock legends Papa Roach. On very few occasions do you see two headlining acts in one night.

Papa Roach, as always, came on at full blast, and stayed there. Playing hits off their latest studio album ‘The Connection’, the band mowed through their extensive back catalogue of nu-metal hits including, ‘Hollywood Whore’, ‘Last Resort’, ‘Scars’ and ‘Between Angels and Insects’. Jacoby Shaddix proved himself as one of the most entertaining frontmen on the scene today and warmed the fans up for what was to come.

A full Brixton Academy witnessed a quick switchover with Stone Sour taking the stage to the first single from their new album ‘House of Gold and Bones: Part 1’. The band wasted no time and quickly delivered the crunching ‘Mission Statement’, ‘Absolute Zero’ and ‘Made of Scars’. Corey Taylor stood tall as tonight’s sold out venue chanted his name out loud. After a year of big rock events, it would be hard to find a time when I had witnessed a louder crowd.

This is the first of two nights in the capital and the crowd were happy to see an encore of ‘Bother’, ‘Through Glass’ and ’30/30-150’. Corey Taylor played acoustically which received a rapturous response from the crowd. Corey exclusively revealed that they will be joining Rammstein and 30 Seconds to Mars at 2013’s Download Festival in addition to his Friday night headline performance with Slipknot.
