LIVE: Steel Panther – 22/03/14 – Corn Exchange, Cambridge

I haven’t seen Steel Panther since their performance at Download a few years ago. With their new album “All You Can Eat” out in the next week or so, I couldn’t wait to catch the band and preview the new songs.

The curtain drops and Steel Panther grace the stage, complete with wigs, spandex and ripped t-shirts. Opening with ‘Eyes Of A Panther’, the band show off their improved production set-up with a massive video screen, killer lights and cool staircase/ramp either side of the drum riser. Visually, very impressive.

What I loved about the set were the videos that accompanied the tracks. My favourite was the one for ‘Death To All But Metal’. It was one of my favourite songs from the set. It gets better every time I hear it live. Back at Download, Corey Taylor joined the band to perform the song, but tonight it sounded ten times better. The newer songs such ‘The Burden of Being Wonderful’ and ‘Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of The World’ sounded massive. I can’t wait to see how they go down at the festivals this summer. We were also treated to classic Steel Panther. ‘Asian Hooker’, ‘Gold Digging Whore’ (complete with the Satchel inviting female crowd members on stage), ‘Turn Out The Lights’ and ‘Just Like Tiger Woods’  were all played.

Overall, a very enjoyable gig. The band sounded great and there was plenty of fan interaction. I look forward to the release of “All You Can Eat” and the band’s festival appearances this summer.
