LIVE: Motionless In White – 21/09/13 – The Forum, London

Kicking off proceedings were York’s Glamour of the Kill. I last saw the Glamour boys back in February 2011 when they played The Lamp in Hull. The band definitely got London pumped for The Defiled and headliners Motionless In White. Even with a slight guitar issue mid-set, the band played a tight and hard hitting set. Highlights were ‘Second Chance’ – the latest single from the band’s forthcoming album “Savages” and ‘Feeling Alive’. Check out a video of the latter below:

Next up were The Defiled. This was the first time I had seen the band, and boy they raised the bar for tonight’s headliner. The band played a great set. It was a high energy performance. The band played flawlessly even with The AvD throwing his keyboard all over the place. Highlights were ‘Unspoken’, set opener ‘Sleeper’ and The AvD inviting fans over the barrier to come give him a hug and high five. It was something that had to be seen. Fans were going over the barrier non-stop for a good 3 – 4 minutes. Overall an amazing set and very impressive stage show. I can’t wait to catch the guys on a headline run in the future.

It’s now time for Motionless In White. To be honest, I was a little disappointed with the band’s performance. They played all the hits and even opened with ‘Devil’s Night’ (one of my favourite tracks), but the sound was very hit and miss. The majority of the the band’s set sounded tight and I could hear frontman Chris Cerulli’s lyrics clearly, but sometimes the instrumentals seemed to merge into a big distorted mess. I also felt that the lighting for the set was a little excessive (too much strobe!). They had a fire breather as well, but this meant having to switch on the smoke machine every so often, so that a stagehand could towel down the stage. The band had numerous costume changes which made the set feel less fluid. Motionless In White are a great band, don’t get me wrong, but their over-the-top production didn’t make the set enjoyable.
