LIVE: Limp Bizkit – 21/02/14 – O2 Academy, Brixton

Fred Durst and Wes Borland

Fred Durst and Wes Borland

Limp Bizkit are quickly becoming one of those nostalgia bands. As soon as they hit the stage, it felt like it was 1999 all over again. Guitarist Wes Borland opened with an acoustic number on the ukulele; following this the room erupted with an ear-shattering roar as Fred Durst and co joined Wes for the riff-heavy ‘9 Teen 90 Nine’. Tonight’s set was a greatest hits roller-coaster. Fans heard all the LB classic numbers (just to name a few: ‘Rollin’, ‘Nookie’ and ‘My Way’) and were even treated to a plethora of covers; this included tracks by Metallica, Guns N Roses, Nirvana and George Michael. The band closed the set with ‘Take A Look Around’ and ‘Break Stuff’.

Leaving the venue, you couldn’t help but feel a buzz around Brixton. Fans were saying tonight’s gig was the best they’d ever been to. I found it hard to disagree with this. Limp Bizkit are one of those bands that lay it all on the line when they play live. Their raw energy and distinct nu-metal sound make their shows what they are. Tonight Limp Bizkit proved that they are still one of the best live bands out there. Bring on Sonisphere this July!
