LIVE: Kerrang Tour – 15/02/13 – O2 Academy, Brixton

It’s that time of year again, it’s time for the 2013 Kerrang! Tour.

The first act of the night were Fearless Vampire Killers. With the room being barely a quarter full, the reception the band got was second to none. Fan favourites “Bow Ties On Dead Guys” and “Palace In Flames” were played as well as “Death or Disgrace” – a new track showcasing what’s to come in the coming months.

Opening with “Breaking and Entering”, Ausie pop-punkers Tonight Alive hit the stage to a strong crowd reaction. As soon as frontwoman Jenna McDougal belted out the first lyric, Brixton erupted. Having been to Brixton a million times, I’ve never seen a support act get a response like Tonight Alive did. Crowd interaction between the crowd and audience was top notch especially during “Amelia” and set closer “Listening”.

Penultimate band of the night were post-hardcore rockers Chiodos. Recently reunited with original singer Craig Owens, Chiodos owned Brixton. What amazed me was Owens’ vocal range. He can go from a melodic to screamo mode so effortlessly. Definitely catch this band if you can, you won’t be disappointed.

Final band of the night was Black Veil Brides. Opening with album opener “I Am Bulletproof” (complete with pyrotechnics), the band played a high energy, high octane set. What bothered me was how the majority of the set was the newer material.  The older songs made an appearance but were not as prevalent as they should have been. William Control made an appearance during “Shadows Die” which was a nice touch. The band and closed with current single “In The End”.

Overall a great night. I look forward to the Kerrang! Tour 2014.
