LIVE: Bring Me The Horizon – 06/11/13 – O2 Academy, Brixton

Bring Me The Horizon are one of those Marmite bands – you either love them or hate them. They’ve have had a very busy 2013 – releasing ‘Sempiternal’ via RCA Records (Sony Music), playing the Vans Warped Tour in the US and Canada, playing the main stage at Reading and Leeds Festival and to top it of a UK headline tour culminating with 2 dates at the historic Brixton Academy. They are one of the UK’s most hard-working metal bands and tonight’s show proves that.

The band have spared no expense production-wise as the gig starts with a confetti fuelled “Can You Feel My Heart”. The band played fan favourites such as, “Blessed With A Curse” and “It Never Ends” but I felt  that much of the focus was on their newer material from ‘Sempiternal’ (“Antivist” and “Go To Hell, For Heavens Sake”). Don’t get me wrong – it’s great that they’re playing newer stuff, but it would of been a nice touch if a lot more older material was included, seeing as it was a headline show. That said, they did play “Chelsea Smile” and “Diamonds Aren’t Forever” from 2008 album ‘Suicide Season’.

The band are musically tight and Oli Sykes vocals are powerful and energetic. The band closed with “Sleepwalking”. Overall an enjoyable gig. ‘Sempiternal’ is out now.
