LIVE: Blink-182 – 08/06/12 – The O2, London

With last years reschedule, this event has been a long time coming and the atmosphere inside tonights O2 Arena is that of anticipation and excitement. The first thing to observe when arriving at the venue is what a vast audience the band appeals too, and the loyalty the fans have for the three piece pop-punk pioneers.

The first band on tonight are Four Year Strong. They are good and warm up the crowd early on with their catchy songs. For me they did a brilliant job of opening the show but it is all too obvious how weak the performance actually is when you compare it to the rest of the nights bands.

Next up are the All American Rejects and by the looks of the merchandise being sported tonight, there are nearly as many fans here for them than there are tonights headliners. Playing through numerous hits such as “Gives You Hell”, “Swing Swing”, “Move Along” and “It End’s Tonight”, the band put on a show stopping performance. Tyson Ritter’s onstage banter and charisma oozes out of the arena with all watching throughly entertained.

Of course, there is only one reason most people are here tonight. The return of Blink-182. This is the first time we have seen the band back on these shores since their headline Reading and Leeds set and it is obvious that their return has been eagerly anticipated. Kicking off with “Feeling This”, Blink-182 smash through their massive back catalogue of songs including “Down”, “Always”, “Rock Show”, “All The Small Things” and “Carousel”. Before the encore we were even treated to a solo performance from Travis Barker giving everyone a chance to see one of the worlds best drummers in action.

It has been highly publicised in recent months of Mark Hoppus’ decision to move to the capital. It is clear he has a love for this city and the whole band put 100% into the show giving all the fans their monies worth.

Make sure to catch them in a more intimate setting next month for a two night stint at the O2 Academy in Brixton.
