LIVE: Alexisonfire – 03/12/12 – O2 Academy, Brixton

Tonight marked Alexisonfire’s final ever UK show after it was announced last year that the Canadian post-hardcore outfit were to call it a day. Alexisonfire begin their final ‘farewell’ tour over on our shores before heading to Brazil, Australia and several cities in their homeland Canada. As imagined, tickets sold out to nearly every stop of the tour.

Fans tonight were also treated to a set by Brighton hardcore band The Ghost of a Thousand who also recently split, but reformed for the shows to show their gratitude towards tonight’s headliners. They played a well received set and despite not playing together for such a long time, didn’t look out of practice in tonight’s sizable venue.

Shortly after the support had finished, fans flocked into every possible spot in Brixton Academy to get a good view of tonight’s headliners. The crowd was buzzing and it was clear from the outset that tonight was going to be very special.

Alexisonfire opened with the first single from their last album, ‘Young Cardinals’, giving the crowd a good chance to warm up their vocal chords. The band did not waste much time between songs and attempted to rattle through as many favorites in what would be a very energetic two-hour set. Fans certainly got their moneys worth as Alexisonfire managed to fill out the set with 23 songs including ‘Boiled Frogs’, ‘Born and Raised’, ‘We Are The Sound’, ‘Accidents’, ‘This Could Be Anywhere In The World’ and set closer ‘Happiness By The Kilowatt’.

Alexisonfire will remain one of the finest post-hardcore bands of all time. Their stage presence, musicianship and humidity will be sorely missed.
