In Flames Interview

We caught up with Anders from In Flames to chat all things Download Festival, the band’s latest album and touring plans for the rest of the year.

You’re playing Download Festival in June. What can we expect from your set?

That the sun breaks out and everybody gets free beer haha. Some new stuff, some old stuff and everything in between. We’re really looking forward to it. We have a big history of playing festivals in the UK and it’s always been good. Hopefully this year will be good. It’s a fantastic day to play. I’m excited.

You’ve played Download before, what have been your favourite memories from playing the festival?

Download has been very important to us. We’ve been lucky enough to play a bunch of times. Have had some really great experiences, some wet, some really warm. It’s the UK so we’re prepared. If there’s no rain, it’s going to be fantastic.

Are there any other bands you’re looking forward to catching?

This day is bar far my favourite day. You’ve got Alter Bridge, Slayer and Steel Panther playing. (You’ve also got) Opeth, Devil Driver, loads of bands we’ve played with before. It’s going to be a hell of a party.

Your album ‘Battles’ was released last year. What has the feedback been like?

It’s been really good. We’ve been doing a bunch of interviews and playing a lot of shows. The reception has been great. We’re one of those bands where we seem to divide our audience. It’s kind of healthy. It shows people have listed to it – We’re not here to please everybody but it’s nice people are turning up to the shows, and they are.

Do you have any favourite tracks from the album?

It’s hard to say. If you asked me the same time next week, I’d probably say something different. ‘The Truth’ and ‘The End’ are a lot of fun to play. They’re slightly different, but fit well under the In Flames umbrella. Guitar Driven, up tempo – songs that work really well live.

What are your touring plans for the rest of the year?

We have a European run coming up, we’re going to be playing the smaller places. There’s a slightly different idea to this rather the usual rock show or metal show. We want to make it more intimate and want to have a lot of different dynamics in there. It’s going to be really good and will get us pumped up for the festivals. We’re going over to the US to play some shows with Alter Bridge then we’re back to Europe to play a bunch of festivals then more touring till Christmas.

In Flames latest album ‘Battles’ is out now via Nuclear Blast, available here. They play the Main Stage at Download Festival on Sunday June 11th. Tickets are on sale now at downloadfestival.co.uk
