LIVE: Europe – 20/02/10 – O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London

Unfortunately I got to the venue late because of tubes and missed the support act Diamond Head. I got in to the recently re-branded o2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire just as they were finishing their set off. The place itself is a very old venue, but the great sounding acoustics make up for this.

Europe were up next. The set opened with the title track of their recently released album Last Look At Eden. From the first track, you could tell that the band’s sound has matured since the release of the guys first album back in 1983. Lead vocalist, Joey Tempest sounded amazing. Guitarist John Norum and drummer John Levén did a brilliant job too. They are great at what they do and this can be seen when they hit the stage. You can tell that the band put everything they have in live performances. My favourite tracks of the night had to be “Rock The Night” and “Superstitous”. Also the very rocky cover of Peggy Lee’s “Fever” was a nice surprise. The guys played a few songs of the new album including the track “Fever”. I was really looking forward to hearing that live – In my opinion the song has to be one of the best on the Last Look at Eden. The evening ended with “The Final Countdown”. The audience were singing so loud, you could hardly hear the band!

Overall, Europe put on a great show and everyone left happy. Personally, this was one of the best gigs I’ve been to in a long time.
