Birds Vs Planes Interview

We caught up with Jenny from Birds Vs Planes. Check out the interview below:

You hit the road with Glasvegas tomorrow. Are you looking forward to it?

Yeah, really looking forward to it. I’ve just travelled into Carlislse from London. We’re just about to have a run through for the Manchester show tomorrow.

You’ve been on the scene for a while, could you tell us how the band started?

It started of originally with me finding an advert in a music shop for a keyboard player. I gave them a ring. We went to rehearse in a conservatory. We couldn’t find a singer, so I started singing. Later on the guitarists that we have now joined, and we became Birds Vs Planes about 4 years ago.

You got a new single coming out on the 17th December called “Relative Worth”. Could you describe the tracks sound to us?

It’s upbeat. It’s a little bit negative in that it’s about people assuming they’re going to do well in a bigger place. People need to have a reality check and know that they need to work for things. The main tone of it is that things won’t just come to you.

You’ve got your debut EP coming out in January. What was the recording process like?

It was brilliant. We were in Rome for about a month and did a lot of pre-production the previous year. We were in this studio which was built in the 60’s. It had some brilliant gear. In the Summer of 2011 we did a lot or pre-production, so when were in the studio we were ready to record. It saved a lot of time. It was a really good communal effort. We really enjoyed it.

How would you describe the EP?

It’s eclectic for a lot of people with a bit of an edge to it.

Let’s say one day you’re headlining Brixton Academy. Which 2 bands would you have support you? These can be past and present.

We would all have differed opinions on that. Some of us would say Mars Volta. Some would say Joy Formidable. We’re all fans of those kind of bands. So rocky with a good melody.
