It’s been five years, but Disturbed are back with the follow up to 2010’s “Asylum” with “Immortalized”. For those not in the know, here’s a bit of background info on the band. They formed in 1994 but didn’t release their first album till the year 2000. The lead single from the this album was “The Vengeful One” which was released in June followed by title track “Immortalized” then “Fire Up” and finally “What Are You Waiting For”.
The album starts with a very interesting instrumental number. Titled “The Eye Of The Storm”, this gives the new listener a taste of what Disturbed are all about. For existing fans, this is just a simple reminder of how talented and tight these musicians are. Title track “Immortalized” is next. This song is huge. If you like your music full of riffs and soaring vocals, this is the track for you. What caught me out was the track “You’re Mine” – The first 50 seconds sound like an EDM track, but don’t worry, the guitars soon kick in and we’re back to the soothing tones of David Draiman and co. All in all, the synth/electronic parts at the beginning of the track work really well. Do you remember the time Disturbed covered Genesis hit “Land Of Confusion” and absolutely smashed it? They’ve done another cover but this time it’s Simon & Garfunkel‘s “The Sound Of Silence”. Again they make the track their own and take it to the next level – they could of easily written the track themselves! “Who Taught You How To Hate” is the highlight track of the release. Musically and lyrically, it’s a very strong track and a great way to close “Immortalized”.
Overall a brilliant return album. David, please don’t make us wait another five years for the next one.
