LIVE: AFI – 06/04/2010 – O2 Academy, Brixton

Californian punk-rockers AFI took to the historic Brixton Academy stage in London tonight, in what has to have been one of the most emotionaly packed shows I’ve ever been to. From start-to-finish AFI moshed, jumped and twirled to much delight of the London crowd.

The set opened with the hit “Medicate” from the boys latest album Crash Love. This was a great start to the set – the audience were singing along with lead vocalist Davey Havok which was a really nice touch to the show and  proves how much the band connects with its audience.  Highlights from the show included the pop-heavy track “Beautiful Thieves” which was well received from the audience. The acoustic rendition of “On The Arrow” was done exceptionally well – definitely my favourite track of the night. The band also played some classics including “The Leaving Song Pt.II” and “Death Of Seasons”. The former track seemed to overpower Havok and take him from the stage to the floor. AFI definitely brought their best to Brixton and this was shown by the great reaction of the crowd. A Fire Inside finished their set with “Miss Murder” and the awesome “Silver and Cold”.

Overall, AFI put on a great live performance. The guys played songs from all their albums, leaving fans old and new feeling happy as they left the venue. If you have the chance to see AFI live, you should definitely check them out – not just for the music, but for the very powerful, energetic and emotional performance the guys put on.

The album Crash Love is out now and available from all good record stores and online.
