After seeing London based grunge outfit, Japanese Voyeurs play GuilFest in 2010, I was really looking forward to seeing the band once again in Hull. Filled to capacity, the Adelphi crowd were into the set throughout and were having a really great time. For those who haven’t heard of Japanese Voyeurs they have an awesome grunge-rock sound. It is similar to that of Nirvana but different at the same time. You just have to listen to/see the band to understand what I mean. What I really like about Japanese Voyeurs, is that they give it their all. This can especially be seen with reference to lead vocalist and guitarist, Romily Alice – she really belts out the vocals! I’ve seen many bands where they  just can’t be arsed to give a decent performance, even when people have paid good money to see them.

There was a lot of crowd interaction especially with the Double Cheese encore at the end of the set. This was a nice touch, as you don’t see many bands interact with the crowd as much nowadays, which is a real shame. Other than that, the top tracks of the evening were Love Sound, Smother Me and Closer. It says a lot about a band, where a review of one of their shows has no negative points at all. This is most certainly the case here – it was a truly enjoyable performance by a great up-and-coming band. The band are currently on tour. If you have the chance to go see them, please do, you won’t regret it!
